This past year has been absolutely full of adventure. We welcomed our first baby, experienced job changes, traveled almost nonstop, and did so much more. With all the busyness and change this year, I’ve learned to accept help where I can.
Time Saving Hacks for New Moms
Being a new mom that works full-time and runs a business full-time, I have learned that there is absolutely no way I can do it all alone. Thankfully, I have an incredible husband who is 100% my teammate. That being said, I know that I have to choose my priorities and outsource things I simply cannot do. Nick and I both work from home and care for Milo, and we love it! But we both still have to work so we want to make the most of the time we do get to spend together. And I’d rather not spend all of our “together time” running errands. I’ve put together a couple tips that I use to save time when I’m struggling with competing priorities.
Have Groceries Delivered
I have become such a fan of grocery delivery. Publix offers grocery delivery, Powered by Instacart and it is nothing short of a godsend. It is quick and easy to place an order, and all my groceries are at my doorstep in no time. There are different time windows for delivery, but items can be delivered as quickly as within an hour!
I can quickly order a couple items to cook dinner, or I can order my entire grocery list for my whole week’s meal plan. I can even order diapers, wipes, toothpaste, paper towels, or whatever else I need. The process is so seamless and it helps take a major item off my to-do list. I also love that the app stores my purchased items so I can easily reorder anything I need again. Or, I can create lists in the app for even more quick ordering options.
Placing an order in the app is simple, and I receive text updates about the status of my order. When the shopper is in store, I can see where they are in the process (they check off the items as they go), and I can also see if the shopper needs to make a replacement and then I can either approve it or not.
Publix delivery, Powered by Instacart, is one of my favorite efficiencies that allows me to have more time for what matters most to me – my family!
Hire Help
This is so hard to do, I know. I can come up with a million excuses as to why I don’t need help. But at the end of the day, I really do. It’s physically impossible for me to meet all of my commitments with zero help. Having someone watch Milo for even a couple hours a week is huge. It allows me to focus on my work or spend time with Nick. It may seem counterintuitive to have someone else watch Milo so that I can spend more time with him. But if I can focus on work when I am working, then I am able to be present with Milo. Work is work. Family time is family time.
Be Mindful of Your Commitments
And honestly, learn to say “no” and that it’s okay to say “no.” I’m speaking to myself here, really, because I am notorious for overcommitting. (I’m working on it.) But it’s important to be mindful of current commitments. You do not have to go to EVERY event, and you do not have to take on EVERY project. Know what you can and can’t say no to, and then do it.
