Every now and then you meet the outfit of your dreams and I think this outfit is it for me. I absolutely adore this denim frill top with the ruffles and bell sleeves. It’s super feminine, but the denim keeps it grounded. The color palette of this entire look – from the denim + white to the camel colored animal print – is literally the stuff that comprises my dreams. And that hint of black adds contrast in exactly the right way.
I ordered this clutch in November of last year because I could NOT stop looking at it. When it came in, I thought it was so pretty that I just shelved it as a nice piece to see. When I got this top though, I immediately recalled the clutch and thought the pair would be perfect together. I was right. This exact clutch has been sold out for a while, but an almost exact version of the clutch (<< follow link and scroll down to select pattern) is available directly from the brand. It just has tan leather on one side instead of being the same on both sides. Still SO pretty.
Okay, you know how I said this is the outfit of my dreams? Well, I’m not even exaggerating. Sometimes when I sleep (or am falling asleep), I start dreaming of clothes. Big surprise, right? I mean, they say you dream about things you think about the most. I’m kidding. I have no idea if that’s a thing. But this has been going on since I was a little girl. I used to wake up in the middle of the night with a sense of urgency and just HAVE to draw the outfits that were in my dreams. I used to get really frustrated because I couldn’t quite draw well enough to capture my ideas. But now, as an adult, my ideas are little more well-formed and I can sketch a little better. I recently woke up with a similar sense of urgency because I was thinking of THIS outfit. More specifically, this top, actually.
You see, I have this thing about my arms and shoulders (last talked about this in my denim dress post). It keeps me from wearing a lot of the things I love. Sometimes I can’t help it and wear things I love even when my arms look stupid, but it’s always more enjoyable when I don’t feel like a loser. You feel me? Well one of the looks I love is off the shoulder tops and dresses. I mean, I talk about them almost every day. And I still wear them, but they’re one of those things that make my arms bother me.
Well, enter this denim frill top (also the flare or bell sleeve top). Lately I’ve been obsessed with tops that are more fitted through the shoulders and upper arms and flare at or around the elbow. For some reason it has a similar level of appeal to the off shoulder top, but it keeps my problem areas concealed. I recently ordered a white shirt with a similar silhouette (outfit coming soon) and it’s even more my favorite. It’s absolutely beautiful on and fits better than the top in this look.
