A simple denim dress is a staple for spring and summer. Pair with tan neutral heels and bag and a wool hat, as I have, or keep it simple with sandals and a cross body. If you’re looking for a way to mix up your denim addiction, I suggest this dress as a good place to start.
I’m always drawn to denim, but usually I wear my denim in the form of jeans (see how I wear: skinny jeans, boyfriend jeans, flare jeans, super distressed jeans) or the occasional denim button down shirt. Lately, however, I’ve been trying to style denim pieces that are just a little more unique. When I spotted this denim dress, I absolutely could not resist. I actually bought it in November to take with me on my trip to Disney World with my family at Christmas time. I did bring it with me but I ended up not wearing it (it was just a little too hot). Since then I’ve just been waiting for it to get warm enough to wear it here. It’s finally starting to feel nice out so one of the first things I pulled out was this dress.
This denim dress was a little bit awkward to style at first because there really isn’t a waist. It’s just kind of a straight, sack-of-potatoes, style dress. I do like that the sleeves are a little longer. My arms – particularly my upper arms – are a problem area for me (I blame years of poor swimming technique), so I like that this dress mostly covers that area. As for the lack of shape, I found that pairing with a neutral heel worked wonders.
These tan block-heel sandals are a perfect neutral heel for spring and summer and they have nice height. I loved them so much that I bought them in black, too. I usually wear a 6 in dress shoes, but ordered these in a 5.5 because my size was sold out when I ordered them. The next week I ordered the black in a size 6. When the tan pair came in, I was surprised to find that they were a perfect fit. They did rub a little, but they fit my feet really well. When the black pair came in (in my size, mind you), they were wayyy too big. The straps don’t even rest on my feet. That being said, the smaller size was less comfortable than my true size. Even thought the size 6 felt too big (and sort of raddled around on my feet as a result…trying to think of a better way to describe that, but maybe you get it), I still found it easier to walk around in and my feet didn’t hurt after wearing them like they did with the 5.5. So all that to say that I would recommend sizing down for a better fit, but keep in mind that you might have to break them in a little. If you don’t mind the annoyance of your shoes being too big, try your usual size. We’ll see over time how the different sizes compare. At this point, I’ve only worn them each briefly.

I think I’ll be wearing this dress and these block heels all through spring and summer, but I’m definitely excited to play with unique denim pieces a little more.
What’s your favorite way to wear denim? Do you have a denim dress? Better question, do you wear it?
Hope you had a great weekend! I’ll be headed to Colorado with 2/3 my sisters + my mom to visit my some family this coming weekend, so I spent this past weekend trying to get ahead on some work. I also tried to rest a little but, as usual, that didn’t really work out. I DID watch The Good Dinosaur and The Martian though. I was pleasantly surprised by both.
How was your weekend?
Much love!

I’m not going to lie, I do not like denim skirts and they are alllll the trend right now so I’ve been turned off by a lot by that. BUT a denim dress? Now that I can get behind!

I’m so glad you can get behind a denim dress, Alissa! They’re so simple and easy to wear. I’m personally a fan of all denim (skirts included), but I totally get where you’re coming from. ESPECIALLY because they’re on trend. For some reason that makes things a little less appealing. Xx
I’m seriously loving how effortless this look is! That dress is so easy 🙂
