With fall in full swing and the holidays right around the corner, lots of us are gearing up for some holiday travel. If you’re like me, that involves a road trip or two to visit loved ones.

What’s in My Bag | Road Trip Edition

We normally take our pups with us when we travel so we pretty much always drive instead of fly when we visit family. I’ve got my road trip essentials pretty well ironed out by now. Honestly, I don’t bring that much for the road – I just have a few things that I have to have with me in the front seat to help me make the most of our road trips (usually 6-9 hours each way. eesh.). N does most of the driving of his own will. But, as front seat passenger, I have to keep him entertained as well. Here’s a breakdown of what I keep with me to make the most of my time in the car.

Work

I don’t really enjoy working in the car so I tend to avoid work as much as possible. Maybe it’s because in my previous position there was no such thing as time off. Even when I was on vacation or traveling out of town to visit family, I always had my work with me (ALWAYS). I was either responding to emails, writing reports, auditing reports, or checking interns’ work and it was enough to make my head spin. Now, I just bring a couple things to help me stay on top of my work. I keep my planner on me so I can double-check to make sure I’m current on my work and I bring a notebook and journal for post ideas and other notes. I also keep my phone on me in case I receive any time-sensitive emails. I of course also bring a phone charger or two. I have no idea why I included the charing brick in these pics. I obviously don’t use that in the car, but I guess I do always have it with me.

Entertainment

Entertainment is an important one for an 8+ hour car ride. I don’t ever watch movies or anything so that I’m not a distraction. I also try to keep the entertainment limited to something N and I can enjoy together. I do always bring a coloring book that I may or may not use if I get bored. Otherwise, we read books or listen to music. Nick and I usually have at least one book that we are reading together. We take turns reading chapters to one another throughout the week and if we are on a road trip, we try to read as much of our book as we can. As far as my favorite apps for entertainment, we use Spotify, Audible, and Podcasts. We pick a book to listen to and download it if we don’t have it, we create a road trip playlist on Spotify, and we download the latest episodes of our favorite Podcasts. This really keeps us entertained pretty much the whole time and we’re always surprised how quickly the time flies!

Pampering

When we travel by car, we are often driving into the night and I can’t skip my skincare routine or I’ll wake up with breakout city on my face. As such, I bring a couple sheet masks and I’ll use one at some point in the trip. I’m sure I look hilarious to passersby. I also bring a lip gloss because…duh. If I have to run into a gas station, I need to look at least a little fancy [insert hair flip emoji]. I also bring a rollerball of perfume. I dab a little on my wrists and whenever I feel a little stuffy or nauseous I just smell my wrist and I feel worlds better. I avoid sprays because that makes the whole car smell of perfume and it would drive N bananas (I might have learned this the hard way). Finally, I pack a sleep mask JUST in case I get to rest a little. But, I’m typically not allowed to sleep so that I can keep the driver entertained. I think that’s fair.

Honorable Mentions

A couple things not pictured but worth mentioning are: a pillow and a blanket, snacks (this is a post for another day…we pack weird snacks), and sunglasses. I also wear leggings, a long tee, a long cardigan, and soft flats pretty much every time.

Finally, I have to mention that I ALWAYS pack a few Tampax Radiant in my “front seat bag” because I believe in wearing what I want. And I want to wear leggings. You can’t plan your life around your Aunt Flo and she’s bound to visit when you’ve already got plans. So when you’re wearing leggings in a car all day, do yourself a favor and pack some tampons. Even better if they are Tampax Radiant because the LeakGuard braid helps stop leaks before they happen [praise hands] and the resealable package is super convenient (hint: especially during road trips). Tampax Radiant gives me the confidence to wear what I want, whether it be leggings, short dresses, or curve-hugging flares any day of the month.

Do you have any road trips coming up? What are your road trip essentials?

How does Tampax Radiant help you #WearWhatYouWant any time of the month?

Thanks for visiting!

xo,

Mae
