Vest Dressed: Faux Fur Vest and Abstract Dress
This fall/winter, one of my biggest style goals is to step up my outerwear game. The fur vest was a major favorite last year, but I didn’t totally jump on board until this year. In fact, I’ve picked up two faux fur vests this year (see the other here) and have been super happy with them. They are the perfect layering pieces because they offer extra warmth and can be styled a number of ways.
I’ve also stepped up my outerwear game with the purchase of a few new oversized coats. You saw the pink one here and I have a few others that I can’t wait to share.
A quick note about style goals. For me, it is essential that I have them. Before you march off and say “seriously, this girls is too much…”, let me explain. I have a long personal history of overbuying. I typically overbuy because of huge sales or clearance deals (and maybe an addiction to shopping). This is dangerous for me because I just end up with a lot of (potentially great) pieces that I just don’t ever wear. I’ve done this many times and it’s still a problem for me. So I’ve instituted “style goals,” which are basically snapshots in my mind of where I want to take my fashion. This helps me keep on task when shopping and helps prevent me from buying a bunch of stuff I’ll never wear. I instead search for more specific pieces that fit into my wardrobe (aka, pieces I know I’ll be able to wear).

I really love your point about style goals. I used to have the same problem where I would buy a bunch of stuff because it was good deal, then it would just sit in my closet. To focus now, I cut photos out of magazines or print them off Pinterest and put them in a little mole skin notebook to take with me shopping. Its kind of silly, but I think its fun. And it really helped curb my needless shopping.
Aimee, I love that idea! When I was younger, I would print pictures (pre-Pinterest) or cut them out of magazines and make collages of things I wanted to buy. But this would be so helpful now.
