Bet y’all thought that I forgot how to dress for an office, huh? I didn’t. It’s true, since starting to work from home exclusively, I don’t often need to dress for an office environment, but it’s one of the few things I miss about going to an office every day. Aside from seeing the amazing people I worked with and actually having human interaction every day (puppy talk is the most interaction I get most days now), dressing up every now and then is about the only thing I miss (I’m being dramatic, but whatever). My office was pretty casual most days, but had to “dress up” on days when we were interviewing potential hires or had guests on campus.
This look basically sums up my formula for a “dressed up” work day:
- Long sleeve or 3/4 sleeve blouse or button down
- High waisted skirt (usually of the pencil variety) that comes at least to right above the knees
- The tweed skirt in this look is a bit shorter than I’d ever actually wear to the office
- Pointed toe pumps
- I’m short so if I’m going to wear heels, I’m going full on high heels. But this is the exception – a nice mid heel is perfect for the office.
- Trench coat
- I prefer a more tailored-looking trench for work than an oversized trench
- Smart bag
- The Rebecca Minkoff MAB tote remains my favorite bag for carting work material around. I can fit stacks of reports, my laptop, and my Kindle Fire in it.
Wearing:
Top (old, similar) | Skirt | Mid Heels | Trench (old Banana Republic, similar) | Bag (color sold out) | Necklace (use code MAEXOXO for free month)
Hope you have an amazing day!

First of all, that coat looks great on you! Second, I think that teal blue color looks great on everyone. I own like 10 shirts in that color because I love it. Black, teal and maroon/whine are my colors….. You look great! Love this outfit!
Thank you so much! I agree, that is such a good color for a lot of people. Thanks for stopping by and showing some love.
Beautiful as always!
Thank you, Lisa! So sweet 🙂
Great look, but I agree with you on the skirt length – just a bit too short for the office. But then again, what do I know – I haven’t had to work in an office in 6 years so I rarely dress up.
No, you’re spot on! I know some people would, but I’d always stay away from anything I had a question about. Thanks for stopping by! xo
I love tweed, but trench is my favorite of this outlook)) I want it for this spring.
Amazing skirt! You styled it perfect here!
