Things to do in San Antonio with a Toddler

This post was written in collaboration with Hotels.com. All opinions are my own.

I have visited San Antonio twice with my little family and it’s a city that has sort of stolen our hearts. The first time we visited as a family, we had no idea we would love it so much. But it now holds a special place in our hearts — we even considered moving there for a second. We’ve made some incredible memories there so we’ve pulled together our favorite things to do in San Antonio with a toddler.

Visiting any city with a toddler can be both exciting and challenging. In our experience, though, we have a better trip when we have planned activities in our back pocket. We of course have to be willing to throw out the schedule and wing it if need be, but having some activities planned for Milo allows us to see more of a city while also making sure Milo is having a good time. And we’ve also learned to bring snacks. Lots of snacks.

On our last trip to San Antonio, we stayed at The St. Anthony and we were obsessed. It is such a beautiful property with a great location and the staff were amazing to Milo. We’ve also stayed at Hotel Valencia Riverwalk which is also amazing. The two properties are pretty close in location but are very different. There are so many wonderful properties in San Antonio.

The DoSeum –  We LOVE the DoSeum. Milo had so much fun running around and there’s plenty for the littles to do there. I’m not gonna lie, Nick and I had a blast as well. There are lots of ways for them to learn, explore, and play at The DoSeum.

I should note, this is a great option to plan for a too-rainy or too-hot day. There are some really fun things to do outside at The DoSeum, though, so keep that in mind when planning.

San Antonio Botanical Gardens – Nick and I have always tried to visit botanical gardens any time we are in a city that has one and we have the time to visit. It’s usually one of the first things we look for when planning an itinerary. And San Antonio Botanical Gardens is actually one of our favorite gardens (and we’ve been to Singapore Botanic Gardens). It’s a big place and there’s lots to explore. Milo loved SABOT as much as we did. It’s also a very instagrammable place, if that’s a factor in your itinerary-planning. Trust me, I get it.

GO RIO River Cruises – We did a river cruise on our first family trip to San Antonio when Milo was quite a bit younger (5 or so months old) and it was great with a baby. Just make sure to protect your little from the sun and help keep them hydrated. Since your’e on a boat, you can’t seek shade as easily as you can in other situations.

I’d do it again with Milo as a toddler, but I’d probably just take a little more care to plan it at a good time for him. You know your kid best. So just consider your child when planning.

San Antonio Zoo – Well, I can’t write a post about things to do with a toddler and not mention the zoo can I? We took Milo to the SA Zoo when he was a baby. We didn’t make it there on our last trip, but I know toddler Milo would only be more excited than baby Milo to experience all that is the San Antonio Zoo. He loves animals, as toddlers do, and he would love to hang out at the SA Zoo.

The Alamo – Okay, this one is probably more for the parents but it’s a thing to do at least once. We stopped by on our first trip and there were plenty of toddlers. Parents can learn about the history of The Alamo with the littles in tow. Then there are little gardens and paths to meander to help toddlers stretch their legs.
