Spring Break Travel Entertainment

Mae Amor- Spring break read, listen, watch list

It’s been a little while since I’ve taken a trip for spring break because once you become a grown up, I have news for you, spring breaks end (usually).  Well, I’m super excited to be heading off on spring break with my sisters.  One of my sisters is a physics professor, one is a nurse who works weekends, one is still an undergrad student, and I (thankfully) work from home.  So we were all able to gather some time to go on a little trip.  We aren’t going anywhere tropical or anything, but we’re going to visit family, and it’s sure to be a blast.

Before I head off anywhere, one thing I’m always sure to do is round up my flight or drive entertainment.  I’ve been on too many trips where I forgot to download my music and books beforehand and got stuck without the appropriate entertainment.  Priorities, amiright?

Here’s what’s on my spring break in-flight entertainment list. There’s a lot of info, so feel free to just read the items and skip the commentary.

Read

My in-flight entertainment is going to be mostly reading because I already watch a LOT of TV and movies (shame on me).

I’m still a believer in physical books.  I highlight my favorite parts, take notes, and read some sections several times.  However, it’s not that practical to cart around a stack of books in an airport, so I usually just bring my Kindle Fire.  I have an audible account, so my favorite thing to do in flight is “read” a book while I listen to the audio.  Not sure why, but it’s super satisfying.

1. “Station Eleven” by Emily St. John Mandel

I heard about this book via Alix (icovetthee) on YouTube and downloaded it basically as soon as she mentioned it.  I’ve finished parts one and two, so I plan to spend some more time on it during my trip.

3. “Girl on the Train” by Paula Hawkins

4. “Being Mortal” by Atul Gawande

5. “In the Company of the Poor” by Paul Farmer, Gustavo Gutierrez

Watch

1. Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt

I binge watched the entire season in essentially an afternoon, then I watched the entire season again with Nick the next day and it was just as funny the second time (only a day later, no less) as the first.  If you watched 30 Rock, you’ll enjoy this show.

Keep in mind that this is a Netflix series, so you’ll have to be connected to the internet using wifi or use your cell data so that you can stream this show. Aka, I won’t be watching this on my flight.

2. Daawat-e-Ishq

Here’s the Netflix description:

” After one too many heartbreaks, shop girl Gulrez has no hope of finding a husband, until she meets a spicy chef who might just be to her taste.”

Need I say more?  I loved it.

3. Arrow

I’m on Season 3, but I’m not entirely caught up, so no spoilers pretty please.

Listen

1. MisterWives – Our Own House

2. Brandi Carlile – The Firewatcher’s Daughter and Bear Creek

I’m a longtime Brand Carlile fan, but I’m super digging her two latest albums.

3. Needtobreathe – all albums

I can’t go on a trip without listening to Needtobreathe. I’ll just listen to every album on shuffle.

Glossies

…because this really doesn’t count as “reading.”

1. People Style Watch

I always pick up the latest issue of People Style Watch at the airport.  I recently subscribed though (after buying just about every issue for probably ten years) so maybe the April issue will come before I head out.

2. Glamour

3. InStyle

Happy spring break!

What are you doing for spring break?  What’s your entertainment lineup?

PS – this list is not all-inclusive by any means.  I tried to limit each category and it almost hurts to leave some things out.  I’ll undoubtedly be tapping into several other playlists, watching other movies and shows, and reading other books/mags.  I feel a little bit like an entertainment junkie after writing this for sure.

Such a great list. I haven’t had a Spring break since college and my trips are usually 2-3 days off. Looking forward to vacation time in May and I sure will be including some from above.

Wow! You’re going to be busy on your trip with all of that! I don’t think I recognize any of it except the tv show Arrow. I haven’t seen it, but I have heard good things. Have fun!
