Where to Stay in Kauai: Koloa Landing Resort

I am so excited to be sharing where to stay on Kauai. Nick and I took little Milo to Kauai recently and had the VERY best time.We were lucky enough to stay at Koloa Landing Resort during our stay and loved it. This was by far our favorite trip we’ve taken with Milo (even with the long haul flights). I actually took PTO this trip, making our time 100% more enjoyable!

I love the beauty and relaxed vibes of the island and was honestly trying to figure out how we could move there. We rented a car for the duration of or trip and I loved spending every day exploring with my boys.We naturally we spent a day just hanging out at the resort, lounging by the pool. We absolutely loved Koloa Landing Resort. The luxury accommodations, beautiful pools and landscaping, and proximity to shopping, dining, and the beach were some of our favorites.

The resort is also family friendly. Usually, when we travel with Milo, he’s the only baby or one of a couple babies. But we saw lots of babies at Koloa Landing and Milo made several little buddies at the pool!

If you’re planning a couples trip, solo trip, or family trip to Kauai, I would strongly recommend Koloa Landing Resort.

Reasons to Stay at Koloa Landing

Location

You guys know that one of the first things I look for when booking accommodations for our trips is the right location. Kauai is a fairly small island. You can drive almost all the way around the island in a couple hours (you can’t actually drive the whole way around the island), so anywhere you stay is going to be close enough to all that Kauai has to offer. That being said, Koloa Landing Resort had the perfect location for us. It’s located close to plenty of options for shopping and dining and wasn’t too far from any of the activities we had planned on the island.

Things to do near Koloa Landing Resort

Koloa Landing is located on the south side of the island, minutes from Poipu Beach Park, Shops at Kukui’ula Village (we were regulars at Lappert’s for coffee and pastries and LOVED Savage Shrimp), and Poipu Shopping Village (Puka Dog and Starbucks were our frequent stops). Kukui’ula and Poipu shopping villages are both easily walkable . Disclaimer, we didn’t actually make the walk with Milo in tow, but we saw plenty of families making the walk with littles or babies in carriers.

I also feel like I should mention that if you stay at Koloa Landing, you will probably drive by the Kauai Humane Society (it’s about 15 minutes from the resort). We drove by several times and I was drawn to the “Big Dogs” sign outside one of the play areas. Nick wouldn’t let me stop for fear that I’d fall in love, but if you’re like me, I think you’ll appreciate knowing this.

Luxury Villas

We stayed in a one bedroom villa during our stay and felt so at home. [I told you I was trying to figure out how to move in.] There’s a full gourmet kitchen with an open living/dining area. We could have spent all day in the room just hanging out. We loved running to the nearby grocery stores to stock the fridge and making breakfast in the room every morning. There’s a beautiful patio or balcony attached to each villa so you can sit outside and enjoy the resort or ocean view.

One of my favorite things about visiting Hawaii in general is the feeling I get that luxury isn’t meant to be uptight. It’s meant to be laid back. Maybe it’s the “aloha spirit”, but I always refer to it as “unstuffy luxury” and Koloa Landing really nails it. Luxury villas and landscaping with the most kind and sincere staff that make you feel right at home make the resort an instant favorite in my book. Need recommendations for dinner? They got you. Need a pack n play? It’ll be right up!

Poolside Dining

Not every resort has poolside dining, unfortunately. But I count it as one of my favorite activities for any warm weather trip. I love getting out and exploring, to be sure, but we still always try to reserve at least one day for a resort day. We hang out in the room and watch tv and hang out by the pool. When Milo inevitably falls asleep by the pool, Nick and I order lunch and enjoy one another’s company. Open a tab and keep the virgin Miami Vices coming! It’s a treasured experience that I squeeze into our trips whenever possible.

Koloa Landing is home to HoloHolo Grill, a laid back restaurant with delicious island fare. We ate there several times and enjoyed everything we tried! If dining in your swimsuit isn’t your style (and I totally get if it isn’t), there’s regular seating as well. We ordered in-room dinging a few times as well and I’m pretty sure it’s the same menu. There’s also a small market on site with basics like milk, bread, eggs, and other snacks. There was a full kitchen in our room, which we found helpful when we didn’t feel like driving to the shops.
