Best in Beauty: Updated Hair Care Routine + Products

Updated Hair Care Routine + Products via @maeamor

Happy Tuesday, pals! For today’s beauty post, I wanted talk about hair! I’ve recently upped my hair game and have been super happy with the results. The last time I shared anything about my hair care routine, I talked about how to care for ombre hair (*cringe* – my most popular post ever, coincidentally). But I don’t even have ombre hair anymore and that wasn’t even the most up-to-date routine that I had back when I DID have ombré hair. I’ve changed my routine several times since then, but I’m really liking my current routine and products.

With the exception of a tiny bit of blonde in the front that is left over from my ombré, my current hair color is actually my natural color. I haven’t colored my hair in about a year and this is the first time I’ve really seen my true color in a loooong time. Nevertheless, I still use color-friendly products so this should be safe for you no matter your hair color status.

I’ve always cared about my hair and made an effort to take care of it, but I recently noticed that my hair seemed a bit drab and dry. I had been using the Kerastase Therapiste line for several months and my hair seemed okay, but I think that the product really just covered up the myriad ways I was mistreating my hair. Namely, not using the appropriate products.

The big thing I did was started using oils in my hair again. I used to use Moroccan Oil, then I used a Garnier version (much cheaper but still a great product) but got out of the habit. How I let this happen is a mystery to me. I’ll get into my current favorite products in a moment, but for now, let’s get into my basic routine.

Current Hair Care Routine

  1. Wash hair a maximum of 3x/week
  2. Use an oil after shower (to reduce frizz when air drying), before styling (for heat protectant), and after styling (to smooth)
  3. Heat style hair a maximum of 2x/week except for small touch ups (wand, curling iron, or straightener)
  4. Avoid blow drying whenever possible
  5. After showering, remove excess water from hair with a t-shirt instead of a towel
  6. Use a hair mask once a week or as needed

Aside from adding oils back into my routine and using a hair mask, the only other way I changed my routine was by updating my products. Below is a list of my absolute favorite products of the moment.

That’s basically it. I do keep up with my routine and use pretty much only the products listed and I’ve been very happy with how my hair feels lately. I haven’t had a trim since before Christmas, so I feel pretty impressed that I’m able to improve the effects of mistreating my hair without cutting off the damaged length.

What’s your typical haircare routine and what products do you swear by? If you’re at all interested in what tools I use to style my hair or have any questions, please feel free to ask 🙂

Much love,
