A couple weeks ago I had the privilege of spending a little over 24 hours at a true southern gem for Barnsley Resort‘s Girls Getaway. I had honestly never heard of the resort and can’t imagine why not. It’s just about an hour from Atlanta and feels like a dream. The entire property is peaceful and serene, even while full of activities. Exactly what every good getaway needs.

After we arrived and checked in, we were welcomed with a delicious lunch at The Woodlands Grill. Everything was so tasty and we were seated outside with a beautiful view of the golf course. After lunch, we were whisked away for horseback riding. I tried my darndest to get photos but all I got was a picture of a horse’s butt. So just trust me, it happened. My horse’s name was Lucas and he didn’t like for anyone to be in front of him. Thankfully they warned me of this so I wasn’t surprised when he took off and passed the horses in front of him to get just behind the leader. Our horseback experience was followed by a spa treatment. If all outdoor activities were followed by the spa, I think I could spend a lot more time outdoors. I opted for the oxygen facial and it was wonderful and relaxing. My skin felt so good for days (maybe even longer).

After my facial, I was introduced to my very own cottage with a front porch, claw foot tub, and sitting area. Once in my room, I took a moment to relax and refresh before heading to dinner. Dinner was at the beautiful manor house ruins. After story time with the resident historian, we were seated for a multi course meal and wine pairings from the Wine Snob. The presentation of the courses was astounding. I unfortunately had to leave in the middle of dinner because I got sick and I was so bummed to miss the main course. I was a little embarrassed, but I’m not sure many people noticed. The sweet staff brought me crackers, ginger ale, and soup in my room. I nibbled on the crackers, drank the ginger ale, called my mom (obvs), and conked out hardcore in the massive and comfy bed. The ruins were probably my favorite location on the entire campus. They host a number of events there from parties to corporate meetings, but it would be the most beautiful backdrop for a small ethereal wedding.

The next morning, I woke up early and enjoyed the cool air outside for a little while then went back to sleep before a full breakfast at the Beer Garden. I loaded up on coffee, OJ, and fresh fruit and felt like a new person. After breakfast, we drove out to the SpringBank Sporting Club for some clay shooting. I’ve been around guns since I was very little, but I have a healthy fear of them so I did one round and shot a couple clays then enjoyed watching everyone else. After shooting, we checked out of our cottages and made our way to the Rice Garden for a family style farewell lunch. The salmon I had was so delicious. I have actually thought about it on numerous occasions since I left. It started raining lightly toward the end of lunch and we all sat there in peace under a canopy of trees. It was so serene and felt like the perfect close to the weekend.

If you’re looking for a peaceful little getaway with plenty options for activities, I highly recommend Barnsley Resort. It’s perfect for a girls weekend, a romantic getaway, or a family trip. I’ve already dropped a hint to my parents that we should spend Christmas or Thanksgiving out there in the future.

Happy Thursday, loves!
