I’m a denim gal. We’ve established that. Lately, I’ve been wanting to be a little more adventurous with my denim with let down hem, raw hem, fringe, and embroidered/embellished style, but I will always love a good pair of classic flares. This pair is the perfect amount of both classic and adventurous.
How to Get the Perfect Length Flare Jeans
If you follow me on Instagram, you might have seen in my story that I had a little bit of a meltdown over these jeans this past weekend. Sit tight because there’s more to the story. I got them in the mail last week and needed them for the weekend but they were a solid two or three inches too long even in my highest heels. That’s the thing about flares. They have to be just right. You can’t really roll them or scrunch them at the knee. So too long or too short and they just don’t work. Did I mention I’m 5′ tall? So perfect fitting flares straight off the rack will never be a thing.
Well, my car has been in the shop for over a week (it needed a new transmission. my five-year-old car needed a new transmission! different story for a different day), so I couldn’t take the jeans in until Nick could take me. We dropped the jeans off at the tailor on Saturday and I had this sinking feeling all the way to the car. I was legitimately freaking out that they were going to be too short. I considered going back in but decided against it. Then I thought about calling to ask her to make my new inseam a smidgen longer but it seemed cray to call and ask for an extra centimeter. Plus I feared that my request would be misunderstood. I finally left it alone and left it to the universe.
And the universe answered. We did some maternity pics for our friends on Sunday and we all rushed to the tailor as soon as my jeans were supposed to be available so we could shoot them but they weren’t ready yet. Under other circumstances, I might have gotten a little stressed, but I actually rejoiced. I thought “this is perfect!” When the tailor said “five more minutes,” I said “wait, can I try them on again? I’m worried I asked for them to be too short.” She took the pin out and handed them to me and I rushed to the fitting room. I came back out and she set the length. “longer,” I requested. “here?” she said. “hmm….longer,” I replied. “here okay?” she responded. “A little longer. I want them to just barely not touch the ground.” She adjusted. It was perfect. She made her alterations and here we have the result. So guys, the magic formula for the perfect length flare jeans is *just barely not touching the ground*. Because these are perfect. I paid for my alterations and wore them out of the shop. I beamed all the way to the car.
