Friday I’m in Love

Friday I'm in Love- September 9

Fabletics (wrinkly) Tank | Lacey Bra | Bracelet

Welcome to Friday, pals! We made it! This week was way too quick and way too short at the same time. I had a blast during my long weekend last weekend and welcomed the short workweek but I’ve got lots of work to get done. Nevertheless, I’m glad we made it to Friday and today I’m sharing my top 5 for the week. First up…

– 1. Pampering –

After way too many times painting my nails on the way to a shoot only to royally destroy them at the last second, I’ve been trying to be a little more intentional about keeping up with my nails. I popped in for a gel touch up last week and decided to go taupe for fall. I’m wearing Utaupia” by Perfect Match and I’m in love.

I’ve also been transitioning my skincare routine and trying to take care of myself in other ways like by drinking more water, drinking tea instead of coffee, and eating better. Sometimes I get off track – I’m drinking coffee as I write this and I ate my weight in sugar the past two weekends. But hey, I try. Quinoa for breakfast, anyone?

Also, can we just acknowledge that I can (almost) get my hair in a high bun? I haven’t gotten a cut in forever but I’m going in for a cut next week. I still can’t decide if I should continue to grow it out or keep it short. I LOVE having short hair but I really miss my long hair (plus it’s really nice to be able to wear my hair up). Opinions?

– 2. Getting Organized –

I recently got one of the Simplified Planner (academic daily edition) and I’ve been crazy about it. I feel like I’ve gotten so much more done the past few weeks of using it. I’m always trying to get organized and be more efficient but I had a hard time figuring out something that worked for me. I think the thing that has been the best for me is just picking something and sticking to it for a while.

– 3. Accessorizing –

In the recent past, I’ve been focusing more on simple accessories that can be worn day after day with just about anything. I ditched my old statement necklaces and big earrings in favor of basic gold necklaces and bracelets and stud earrings. But when I met this beautiful charm bracelet at TBScon, I felt like I had met the perfect accessory for me. It’s simple gold with sentimental charms that offer a little more statement than my typical pieces. I loved putting together my favorite charms and I look at them often to remind me of things I love.

– 4. Budgeting –

I’m a little bit of a nerd. I love data, budgeting, crunching numbers, and spreadsheets. I’ve always thought I was good with money until we sat down to do a true budget (like balance-to-zero, every-dollar-accounted-for budget). I was shocked and embarrassed to find that we had never really followed an actual budget before. Budgeting doesn’t mean “living on less” or “being careful with your money”. It means knowing how every dollar will be spent before you have it so that you can achieve your goals. N and I have been on a true budget for the past several months and it has been incredible. We were able to identify areas where we spend way too much (pretty much always in the “food” category) and other areas where we could improve (ahem, savings).

We’ve left a little more room for fun the past couple weeks but we’ll be narrowing back in on our goals this month and I honestly can’t wait. I think everyone should learn to budget early on, but if you didn’t or you got off track, it’s never too late. Budgeting is the foundation for any financial goal. And when you reach some of your financial goals, you can treat yourself to a fancy wallet to carry around all your hard-earned cash money dolla bills.

– 5. Long Weekends –

I was so thankful for a long weekend this week. We worked hard and played hard. We had a marathon weekend* with some friends of ours and went out to eat, shopped, cooked, watched movies, did some maternity photos (they’re expecting), and did some blog photos. Come Monday, I think we were all exhausted. N and I had a very lazy day in on Monday before heading over to our friends’ to make dinner. I was so happy to have such a full weekend, but I absolutely loved chilling out for a few hours in cozy loungewear and messy hair.

* We joke with our friends that we don’t always hang out on the weekend, but when we do, we hang out ALL weekend. We call these our marathon weekends.

Thanks so much for stopping by! Hope you have a great weekend!
