If there are two things I love in fashion they are 1) a challenge and 2) casual looks. You probably know that about me by now. Boyfriend jeans certainly tick both of those boxes. Sometimes they can be difficult to wear, but I’ve got a couple tricks I keep in mind when styling them to avoid looking like a twelve-year-old boy.

How to Wear Boyfriend Jeans

Boyfriend jeans are one of my favorite styles but I sometimes feel like they are difficult to style. If you know me though, you know I never shy away from a challenge. Because, let’s face it, when you’re 5′ tall, fashion itself is a challenge. Luckily, I’ve experimented with enough boyfriend jeans to know which ones work on me and which ones don’t. I’ve found the following three tips to be particularly helpful when styling my favorite casual denim style.

  1. Size down – Boyfriend jeans typically run a little large to give a relaxed and loose fit. This is great except that it means they usually sit a little lower on the hip and thus are a little longer. I usually find that buying my regular size results in jeans that swallow me whole. Just make sure you read reviews because a BF jean that runs small might be perfect in your size.
  2. Roll, baby, roll – I personally prefer the look of rolled boyfriend jeans…and not just because I have to roll my jeans to make them fit. It is true that I typically roll my jeans to make them the right length, whether I prefer the rolled look or not. But with BF jeans I just like the look better. I personally like it when they hit a couple inches above the ankle. When I wear them lower, I feel like I look really weighed down.
  3. Wear heels – I’m really in no position to give people taller than me style advice, but I feel like heels with boyfriend jeans look good on everyone. Don’t get me wrong, I love sneakers or flats with my favorite jeans on any given day. But if I’m going out somewhere and I want to look like I at least tried a little, I feel like I need heels with my boyfriend jeans. My favorite styles are pointy toe pumps like I’m wearing here or a simple ankle strap heel in nude, black, or grey.
