Floral Maxi Dress

The maxi dress can be challenging to style for anybody, but it has a reputation for being particularly difficult to style for those who are vertically challenged. Being 5 feet tall myself, I’ve struggled with whether or not this is a style I should avoid. But every time I’ve owned a maxi, it has served as one of my favorite pieces for a time. I think that a maxi is something that anybody can wear – no matter their height. It’s just a matter of finding the right one.

FLORAL MAXI DRESS

When I saw this floral maxi dress online, I had more than a suspicion that it wouldn’t work out. But I had free returns and it was a steal so I figured there was no harm in trying. I’m SO glad I ordered it because I just want to twirl and spin in it all day long. It is of course a little long, but this is nothing that some chunky booties couldn’t solve. These Jeffrey Campbell booties are some of my favorites. I’ve had them for forever and wear them constantly. They have great height and they’re comfortable.

Spring is just a few weeks away but I have to be honest…I’m usually in full on spring mode by the first day of March. So, since it’s Leap Day today, it’s basically March. And, in my mind, it’s basically spring. As such, I’m already thinking of how lovely this dress will be in spring. I love that I can wear it now with a faux leather jacket and booties and later with some spring wedges and sunglasses.

If you’ve struggled with how to wear a maxi dress like me, then I have a couple tips that you may find helpful.

  1. Look for a dress that has a little bit of structure or definition. I like this one because it has a natural waistline and a v-neck. The waistline actually falls a little low on me, but it’s easy enough to fake 🙂
  2. Pair with a structured piece. This faux leather jacket adds some shape to the look and keeps it from looking too heavy.
  3. Pay attention to the details. The most obvious details in this dress are the bold color and print, but really I love the side slit because it makes the dress just a little more wearable. It makes it a little more playful and a little less, well, Little House on the Prairie.

How do you like to wear a maxi dress? Do you have any tips you’d add?

Hope you had a fabulous weekend! Here’s to a great week!

Much love,
