Christmas PJs

It seems that every family has their own holiday traditions, but I sometimes struggle to identify mine. Growing up, we spent a lot of Christmases away from home because most of our family lived in different states.  I loved traveling to visit grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins on both sides of my family (really, I loved it), but some of my fondest memories of Christmas are those spent at home, with my parents and three sisters.  And of those memories, one of my favorites is all of the sisters in our jammies.

Since N and I got married, we’ve been trying to create some traditions for our own little family, but we find ourselves in a similar position to what I think my parents experienced when I was growing up – all of our family lives elsewhere.  Plus, we don’t have any kids so it’s just us and the pups.  We do travel home sometimes, but a lot of the time we miss out on the traditions.  So one tradition that Nick and I have started is always getting a real tree, because that’s not a tradition that necessarily requires we be around family.  Neither of us ever had real trees going up, so it felt a little bit rebellious the first year we went to get one.  Now we quite like it.  Just the two of us, standing in the cold, testing out all the trees, getting covered in sap.  Glorious.  And we keep with my family’s tradition of decorating our tree with Hallmark ornaments.  My mom gave the girls Hallmark ornaments pretty much every year of our lives – I even have my ornament from my very first Christmas on my tree now!  So it feels like I have a little bit of home every year, even if I’m far away.

Nick and I look forward to establishing more traditions into our holidays, but it will just take time.  I’d love to know what some of your traditions are.  What are your favorite holiday traditions (that you practice or would like to)?

Oh, and how cute is Gwen Bear?  She just didn’t even register that she was in the way of anything.  But if her girl is there, so is she.  I was clearly upset about it… I mean, who needs giant puppy kisses anyway?

Happy Wednesday!

Do it! These are from J. Crew Factory (it’s a onesie) and there’s a set (two pieces) like it on Victoria’s Secret. I kind want them all, but that would be silly of me. Right?
