High vs Low: Agate Coasters

High Vs Low Agate Coasters: West Elm vs budget

Agate Coasters

So, I like rocks.  Not, like, the diamond kind (I won’t complain about those though), but minerals as those pictured above.  I grew up in the natural state and I have fond memories of digging for rocks in the dirt and finding soo much quartz.  Now I kind of wish I had kept the rocks.  I also have fond memories of going to a place in my hometown called The Basket House.  I would go there with my mom to pick out gifts for people and it was always a treat when I got to pick out rocks for myself.  This is where the fascination began, and it has continued into adulthood.  I am so excited that minerals are “in” right now, but whenever a good is on trend, the cost of that good goes up.

I recently thought to myself that agate would make really cool coasters, so I googled “DIY agate Coasters.”  I honestly didn’t expect to find much, but apparently I’ve been living under one of these rocks I’m so fond of, because there are actually a lot of options and they don’t involve much DIYing.  I am a huge fan of the West Elm coasters, but at $60 for a set of four, I couldn’t quite convince myself.  Enter Black Market Minerals, where they have a set of four (with four different colors) for less than $20.  I ordered two sets (one for my office and one for downstairs) and they came in yesterday.  I am in love with them and do not regret going with the low option at all.

I found this cute semi-DIY and I will be doing this to mine once I get my gilt paint in.  I’ll be sure to share some pics afterward.

What do you think of the agate trend?  Would you splurge on the high or save with the low?

Happy thursday!

Much love,

Mae
